Alongside the Mi CC9 Pro and Mi Watch, Xioami is also launching the all-new Mi TV 5 in China on November 5. The new TV will come loaded with several exciting features and will be a worthy upgrade from the previous generation Mi TV 4. While announcing the launch date of the TV yesterday, Xiaomi stated that Mi TV 5 will come with ‘breakthrough quality improvement’ and today, the company revealed two of them. According to the official Weibo post put by Xiaomi, the Mi TV 5 will be equipped with a 4K quantum dot screen and the NTSC color gamut will be as high as 108%.
What is 4K Quantum Dot and Importance of NTSC Color Gamut?
Color Gamut refers to colors that can be displayed by a TV. A TV that is rated at 100% NTSC can display all of the colors, whereas, the TV that is rated at 50% NTSC can only display half of all the colors. Going with this explanation, the Mi TV 5, which is rated at 108% NTSC will be able to show all the colors when fully calibrated.
A quantum dot display uses quantum dots (QD), semiconductor nanocrystals to produce monochromatic red, green, and blue light to produce the best picture quality with a billion colors and up to 1000 nit of peak brightness.
In the market, Sony and Samsung have a wide range of quantum dot LED TVs and their price starts from around $1200. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi will price its upcoming Mi TV 5. As Xiaomi is known to set disruptive pricing of its devices, Mi TV 5 will also come with a cheaper price tag just like Mi TV 4.
