Vodafone Idea has partnered with the fastest growing OTT (over-the-top) platform ZEE5 to make ZEE5 Theatre available to its subscribers. For Vodafone subscribers, the ZEE5 theatre would be accessible on Vodafone Play, and Idea subscribers can access ZEE5 Theatre via Idea movies and TV app. The latest move from the telecom operator comes on the back of a series of earlier partnerships of Vodafone Idea with various platforms to offer free content services to its subscribers.
However, it should be noted that the Vodafone Idea subscribers would not have access to ZEE5 content but can only access ZEE5 Theatre. While ZEE5 is a premium streaming service similar to Netflix, Hotstar, SonyLiv, etc., the ZEE5 Theatre streams only a select number of movies. As a result of this new partnership, Vodafone Idea customers can now play movies across various genres such as Thriller, Crime, family drama, supernatural, comedy, and periodic drama and thereby ensure a seamless viewing experience. Starting July, ZEE5 Theatre would offer nine plays and would add two new titles on every Wednesday and Friday at 9 PM.
Some of the famous plays that can be accessed by Vodafone Idea subscribers on ZEE5 Theatre include Savita Damodar Paranjape (a psychological thriller), Double game (suspense drama), Doll’s house starring Subhrajyoti Barat and Swastika Mukherjee, and Vaastav which is based on blockbuster crime flick under the same name.
The availability of cheap data plans has forced the telecom operators to make strategic partnerships with content service providers to boost data consumption. While Industry leader, Reliance Jio is focussing on developing in-house content; its rival Airtel depends on Amazon Prime Video and Netflix to boost data consumption.
