Trai (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has finalised the implementation date for the new Mobile Number Portability (MNP) regime, i.e., on December 16, 2019. It implies that the new MNP rules would be live starting from the mid-night of December 16. However, it is important to note that TRAI does not accept MNP requests for six days, i.e., from December 10 to Dec 15. During this period, the customers cannot submit their port out requests and would have to wait until the implementation of the new MNP regime on December 16. Further, Trai clarified that MNP requests submitted on December 9 before 5.59 pm would be processed as usual within the stipulated time, and the unique porting code (UPC) would be generated normally.

MNP Service: The Best Option to Change Network Operator Without the Change of Mobile Number

The Indian telecom space is witnessing a tremendous competition among the players. The  telecom operators that include Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea (currently Vodafone Idea) and BSNL are constantly showering the customers with attractive plans and benefits to lure them to their network. Customers are always on the look to opt for network operators offering the best value for money benefits. It is where the mobile number portability (MNP) comes into the picture.

The MNP (Mobile number portability) service is the most popular among the telecom subscribers when it comes to switching to different operators. With the MNP service, the customers can easily shift to the network operator of their choice without having to change their mobile number. The conventional process of MNP is quite tedious and consumes a lot of time before the completion of the transition process. But the new MNP regime ensures faster MNP process and would save a lot of time for the subscribers.

New MNP Regime Accounts for Faster Processing of Port-Out Requests

Trai, for quite some time, has been continually pushing the deadline for the implementation of the MNP regime. It can be attributed to the lack of readiness of the technical systems of the telecom providers and the MNP service providers. But now, Trai has finalised the date for the implementation of the new TRAI regime on December 16. With the new MNP regime, porting out the SIM in the same circle would be completed in three days. Similarly, porting between two different circles would be completed within a maximum of five days.
