Jio has announced the mixed Reality headset dubbed as “Jio HoloBoard” at the 42nd Reliance AGM (Annual General Meeting). Mixed Reality is a hybrid of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). With this headset, Jio is bringing the AR and VR to the masses. “The device is one out of the future,” said Aakash Ambani referring to Jio HoloBrand at the Reliance AGM. The Jio HoloBoard offers an immersive experience in Online shopping, Education and Entertainment. The Mixed Reality headset operates in association with Jio GigaFiber broadband service. Let us go through the Jio HoloBoard in detail.
All about Jio HoloBoard
Jio HoloBoard is developed by a start-up named Tesseract, which Reliance has acquired a few years back. The HoloBoard consists of an AR headset and can connect to any smartphone: be it Android or iOS for augmented simulation. It comes with a gesture-based remote controller with programmable buttons that runs on Bluetooth. The headset is very lightweight and weighs just 125 grams. To use the service, all a user needs to do is slide the smartphone placed inside the holder of the headset.
How does Jio HoloBoard function?
“MR supported by JioFiber will transform our lives with three specific use cases: Shopping Education and Entertainment,” said Aakash Ambani. The MR headset allows the creation of a 3D hologram of any subject which is placed in front of the subscriber’s eyes. For instance, when it comes to shopping, the Jio HoloBoard creates a 3D hologram of the subscribers. They can then preview how they look like in particular clothing when they wear. It thereby assists the users in making informed decisions before placing the order. In Education, the Jio HoloBoard takes learning to a new level of interactivity. The students can experience their subject topics in three dimensions which enhance their engagement and understanding. Finally, when it comes to entertainment, users can enjoy movies in virtual reality. With Jio HoloBoard, the users can view movies as if they are watching on a big screen.
Pricing and Availability:
As of now, there is no announcement from the company with regard to the price of the headset. However, during the demo, the Reliance team did clarify that it would be extremely affordable and would not burn a hole in your pocket. Hence the price of the MR headset may be anywhere between Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000. Coming to the availability, the MR headset might be available for purchase from Jio’s official website (jio.com).
