Mukesh Ambani has announced the Triple play broadband plans in September. All the JioFiber customers who are availing the preview offer would now be shifted to the paid plans, which start from Rs 699. Although Reliance Jio announced a free 4K Set-Top box for every broadband plan, there was a dilemma among users as to how the telecom operator would offer Live TV channels. As per the latest info, the Jio customers who received the Set-Top box confirmed that Live TV channels would indeed be offered via IPTV service. However, the channel count does not seem to exceed over 150. For customers who are accustomed to watching full-fledged TV channels may have to opt for separate cable TV connection.
JioFiber Set-Top box has Pre-installed JioTV+ App that Aggregates Content From OTT Apps
Initially, it was believed that that the Set-Top box would come pre-installed with the JioTV app and offer more than 650 Live TV channels to the customers. It does not seem to be the case now! And instead, the Jio Fiber Set-Top box features a new Jio TV+ app that combines all the live TV content from the OTT app. So all the Live TV channels of the corresponding OTT service providers would be present inside the JioTV+ app itself. The Jio TV+ app is a content aggregator service allowing customers to watch Live TV channels through the internet. As of now, it appears that we get to see the Sony, Free-to-air, and Star India channels on the JioFiber Set-Top box (STB). Right now, the ZEE limited channels are not offered by Jio Fiber STB. It appears as if the company is yet to finalise terms with a few of the OTT service providers.
Mukesh Ambani also announced that the OTT services would be offered as a subscription model, at the commercial launch event of Jio Fiber. Among the Jio Fiber broadband plans, the Silver plan offers 3 months of OTT apps subscriptions. On the other hand, the Gold, Diamond, Platinum, and Titanium subscribers get an annual subscription to OTT apps.
