Huawei announces a list of smartphones that will be getting Android Q update

Google has recently announced that it would release Android Q beta update for testing in new devices from different OEMs. A total of 15 smartphones have been listed for the beta programme. Out of varied brands, Huawei has also been listed along with its sub-brand Honor in the beta programme. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is one of the devices that will be getting the Android Q beta along with two smartphones from Honor. Huawei has also announced eight of its smartphones that are on the way to getting the final result of Android Q beta programme. Other than Huawei, Nokia, Sony, Asus, LG, Vivo, Realme and Xiaomi have also been listed for the Android Q beta programme.

According to the post shared on Huawei EMUI team’s official Weibo account, Huawei’s first batch of smartphone including Honor lists Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, Huawei Mate 20X, Huawei Mate 20RS Porsche Design, Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, Honor V20, and Honor Magic 2. The list comprises of both mid-range and flagship devices from the company. Alongside providing the first batch of smartphones for the Android Q beta programme, the company has said that it will also open applications for beta testing programme and will co-operate with Android and developers in order to ensure compatibility and optimization.

The company has not provided any specific timeline or other information as to how it will enrol devices for the update programme. But it has reportedly started taking registrations for the Android Q for Huawei Mate 20 Pro. However, the company is also said to limit the enrollment in the programme who at least one app published in the Google Play Store and belong to the selected countries. Apparently, the first version of the latest Android Q beta programme will be released on May 11 for the registered companies. For this, the supported countries are Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Norway, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Poland, Denmark, Romania, Sweden, Finland, Serbia, and Ukraine. The beta programme will be continued till June 30.

Moreover, a number of features and upgrade have been reported to come with the new Android Q beta software. These updates will include improvement to the privacy and security features of the device, improvement in gesture navigations, and addition of new features such as Dark Mode, Focus and Family Link. Expectedly, the Android Q software on Huawei and Honor would include EMUI on top. However, there is no detail regarding which version of EMUI version it will be using.

For the upcoming beta version of Android Q that is all set to release soon, Huawei has listed various details on its website for its Mate 20 Pro, which includes application qualification, steps for registration, bugs report and versions that would support the beta software.
