DTH companies in India are gearing up to take on Reliance Jio, which is planning to launch the Jio Fiber service on September 5. Tata Sky, Dish TV, d2h, Airtel Digital have come up with their own versions of devices that can stream IPTV and OTT content. Ahead of Jio Fiber launch, India’s leading DTH operators Dish TV and Tata Sky are planning to launch Dish SMRT HUB and Binge+ devices respectively to its users in India. The two devices were now certified by Google are ready to launch soon.
Dish TV SMRT HUB Streaming Device: Details, Features
Dish TV’s SMRT HUB comes with the option to broadcast DVB-S2, IPTV and OTT content. The device runs Android TV 9.0 and features a 1.2GHz quad-core chipset. With about 8GB internal storage and 1GB of RAM, the device will offer loads of video content from OTT apps like Zee5, Watcho, ALTBalaji, and Hungama Play. Dish TV already launched the SMRT Stick device that should be plugged to the Dish NXT HD set-top box to play the content from the internet. With the SMRT HUB, video content can be played without any requirement to connect to another set-top box. All you need is an active Wi-Fi hotspot that needs to be connected to the device.
Tata Sky Binge+ Streaming Device: Details, Features
Tata Sky recently launched the Binge service for its customers in India. The service offers an Amazon Fire TV Stick (Tata Sky Edition) that needs to be connected to a compatible Tata Sky DTH set-top box to play the content. Now with Binge+ streaming device, the need for the Amazon Fire TV Stick is excluded as the device itself comes loaded with Android TV 9.0, 2GB RAM, 1.8GHz dual-core processor, and more. The Binge Plus device is expected to be launched soon in India.
The two devices – Dish TV SMRT HUB, Tata Sky Binge+ are expected to take on Airtel’s Xstream Stick and Xstream Box, whose launch is also scheduled soon. With these many devices in the queue, Reliance Jio will surely feel the heat in this segment.
