Computer Short Cut Keys

Computers have become an integral part of everyday life. So, it becomes of utmost importance to have good knowledge of the computer shortcut keys. They offer an easier and quicker method of navigating and executing commands in computer software. The shortcut keys save a good chunk of your time and help to execute even the complex tasks with the utmost ease. It, therefore, saves a lot of time and also reduces the strain that is often the result of repetitive motions.

The shortcut keys are generally executed in combination with Alt, Ctrl, Shift and Windows (Win) key along with some other keys. Most of the shortcuts serve to eliminate extra steps that involve a mouse or selecting extra menus. Hence, your work would be completed in a few keystrokes which otherwise involves a lot of investment in time.  

List of basic computer shortcut keys:

  • Alt + E–        Edits options in the current program.
  • Alt + F–         File menu options in the current program.
  • F1–               Universal help (for any sort of program).
  • Ctrl + Del–    Cut selected item.
  • Ctrl + X–       Cuts the selected item.

  • Ctrl + (Right arrow) — Move one word to the right at a time.

  • Alt + Print Screen —    Create a screenshot for the current program.
  • Alt + Shift + Tab —      Switch backward between open applications.
  • Alt + Tab —                 Switch between open applications.
  • Ctrl + Esc —                Bring up the start menu.
