BSNL Partners with PayTM App to Enable Ease of Access to its Public Wi-Fi Hotspots


The state-led telecom operator BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has stitched in a strategic partnership with the PayTM app and launched the Smart Wi-Fi Onboarding service to enable easy access to its Wi-Fi hotspots. In general, the users are reluctant to offering their bank details to untrusted sources for purchasing a Wi-Fi package for using Wi-Fi hotspots. Now, with this partnership, users no longer need to provide their bank details and can make the transaction via the PayTM app similar to normal recharge. BSNL boasts a good enough number of 30,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the country, wherein the customers can pay a small amount of money for accessing data over its network.

BSNL off late has been in the mix of things with many consumer-centric moves such as new launches, validity extensions, new revisions, and new services. The strategic move from BSNL has not only helped the telecom operator regain its customer base, but also succeeded in attracting a good chunk of new users to its platform. The PayTM-BSNL smart Wi-Fi Onboarding service was launched by PK Purwar, CMD, BSNL, at a press conference in New Delhi. The new service would make it easier for the users to log into public Wi-Fi hotspots. The PayTM BSNL Wi-Fi onboarding service would also eliminate the security concerns surrounding the purchase transaction of Wi-Fi hotspot plans in the conventional approach for using public Wi-Fi. BSNL SIM card users can now avail the service to connect to public Wi-Fi hotspots.

PayTM has been the go-to option for many users for recharging their mobile numbers. The payment transaction platform also rewards its customers by offering cashback on recharges. PayTM accepts multiple payment options like UPI, credit/Debit card, Net banking, and more. Now, the users can also use this platform to purchase Wi-Fi packs through the platform, similar to normal recharges. PayTM app also notifies the users whenever they come in the vicinity of the public Wi-Fi zone. Once the users authenticate by entering the SSID, they can purchase a suitable pack for using Wi-Fi. Also, the users can check for data consumption and validity on the dashboard. This way, the hassle-free purchase of Wi-Fi plans optimises the adoption of public Wi-Fi hotspots.
