BSNL off late has been struggling to find space in the already saturated Indian telecom market. The state-run telco has been in the mix of things by launching consumer-centric plans every now and then. In the latest move, the state-run telco has launched 4G services in Andhra Pradesh circle. BSNL is already offering 4G services in Kerala, and parts of Karnataka. The Chief general manager of BSNL in Andhra Pradesh (AP) region, AP Rao, has launched the 4G services at an event held in Vijayawada.
Highlights of the launch event
Speaking on the occasion of the launch event, AP Rao elaborated on the recent growth of BSNL and detailed valid facts. According to him, BSNL has succeeded in acquiring 3.33 lakh new customers for the current financial year until July 29. Also, BSNL AP circle is spending around Rs 200 crore for modernisation and expansion of mobile services in the current financial year. He further noted that BSNL is currently facilitating data traffic of 122.3TB per day.
AP Rao also said that there would be the addition of 150 more 4G towers in the Vijayawada region alone, in addition to the already existing 350 4G towers in the region. The Chief General Manager also added that the telco has so far given 17,771 broadband connections to the subscribers until July 29. He further added that BSNL has partnered with Amazon to offer Prime membership worth Rs 999 on select postpaid plans.
How would the latest move impact BSNL?
BSNL has been on the receiving end and has lost most of the customers after the launch of Reliance Jio. Many of its customers opted to migrate to Reliance Jio, owing to faster data speed and cheaper data plans. BSNL has constantly been launching consumer-centric plans to retain customers and also lure new customers. But the government-led telecom operator has been lagging behind due to lack of 4G connectivity. Hence, the announcement of 4G services is definitely a welcome move from the telecom operator. It would thereby help in driving more customers to its platform.
