Airtel Launches VoWiFi Service, What is WiFi Calling and How to Enable it on Your Smartphone?


Airtel has officially launched VoWiFi service (Voice over Wi-Fi) or Wi-Fi calling in India in the Delhi NCR circle. The telco is expected to extend the service to the remaining circles. Airtel has announced a list of 24 smartphones that support VoWiFi service belonging to four major brands. They include Apple, Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi. The Wi-Fi calling service would be available only through Airtel Broadband. Airtel  customers in Delhi having a 4G SIM will now be able to make and receive calls, send text via Airtel Broadband/Airtel XStream Fiber network. Let’s dig into the complete details of the Airtel VoWiFi service/Wi-Fi calling. 

What is Wi-Fi Calling?

For those unaware, Wi-Fi calling/VoWiFi allows customers to make and receive calls, send texts over a Wi-Fi network. The service accounts for superior indoor coverage, crystal clear conversations and superfast call connect. Airtel has currently rolled out the service in Delhi NCR circle. If you reside in Delhi and have supported handset with an Airtel 4G SIM, then you would be able to use Airtel Wi-Fi calling through Airtel broadband/ Airtel XStreamFiber. Also, the service does not warrant any app or separate login for using the service.

List of Mobile Phones that Support Airtel VoWiFi Service

As of now, the Airtel Wi-Fi calling/VoWiFi service is supported by 24 handsets from four major brands. The supported devices include phones from brands such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. The telco is expected to extend the VoWiFi service support to more smartphones in the coming days.

How to Enable Airtel Wi-Fi Calling Service on Your Smartphone?

As mentioned above, the Airtel Wi-Fi calling/VoWiFi service is currently available in the Delhi NCR circle. In case you reside in Delhi and happen to own any of the 24 compatible handsets, you can then enable the Wi-Fi calling service in a few steps. If you have an supported Apple handset, you can go to Settings>Mobile data> Wi-Fi calling to activate the service. Samsung users can enable Wi-Fi calling from the drop-down Quick settings Menu. If you own a Xiaomi handset, you can go to Settings > SIM Cards & mobile networks > Airtel > Make Calls using Wi-Fi. To activate the service on OnePlus devices, go to Settings > Mobile Network > SIM1/2 > Wi-Fi Calling to activate the service. Once done, you then need to restart your device and then wait for the VoWiFi symbol to appear in the status bar.
