Bharti Airtel is all geared up to give Reliance Jio Fiber a run for the money. Airtel would bundle custom Android-based smart set-top box that offers users with both digital entertainment as well as broadband services next month. The Sunil Mittal-led telco would offer free Android set-top box (STB) and HD LED TV to the users who opt for its premium broadband plans. According to ET Telecom, Airtel’s new broadband plans and offerings would be in line with Reliance Jio’s upcoming offerings.
After going neck and neck in the telecom space, now it seems both Airtel and Reliance Jio are focussing on capturing a major share of broadband and digital space. Airtel has a good chunk of customer base across post-paid mobile, home broadband, and DTH platforms. The telco is now looking to capture the customer base opting for high revenue-generating converged telecom services across these three lines of business.
Airtel Set-top-box bundle offer
Come September, the two telecom giants, Airtel and Reliance Jio are set to compete against each other in digital entertainment and broadband services. Earlier Mukesh-Ambani announced the commercial launch of Reliance Jio Fiber from September 5. The telco would also offer a free set-top box and high definition TV for customers opting for annual broadband plans as part of Jio Fiber “welcome offer.” The plans would start from a base price of Rs 700 to higher plans of Rs 10,000 per month.
To counter Reliance Jio, Airtel is now looking to bundle a customized set-top box that offers digital entertainment and broadband services. Airtel would offer a free set-top box, and HD LED television to customers opting for super-premium tariff plans. It is also learned that Airtel is testing an integrated billing system in Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Madhya Pradesh. The system would be operationalized nationally in September 2019.
Airtel’s Android set-top box offers exciting features to the customers
Customers opting for Airtel’s upcoming converged entertainment and broadband service can access premium OTT content, HD television channels, streaming applications, virtual reality apps, and interactive gaming services. Airtel would offer reliable broadband speeds up to 100Mbps on select plans. The company is yet to announce the tariff plans and release date. However, as per the report, the plans would be priced competitively inline with Reliance Jio Fiber services. Whatever may be the scenario, the customers would be the ultimate beneficiaries and would enjoy both TV and broadband services at affordable price brackets.
